Issue 2/2025 of the peer-reviewed journal ET-Studies is now online. The thematic focus of this issue, “Christianity and Democracy”, addresses the relationship between Christian theology, ethical reflection, and democratic culture in contemporary European societies.
The main section features articles by Xavier Gué (Paris), Adrian Loretan (Lucerne), Benjamin Dahlke (Eichstätt) and Didier Pollefeyt (Leuven), who explore democracy from theological, ethical and socio-political perspectives.
Beyond the main theme, the issue includes a contribution by Tim Zeelen (Augsburg) on history as a source of knowledge for theological ethics, and an article by Ward Biemans (Tilburg) on intercultural pastoral care in pluralistic contexts.
Reports cover a wide range of current theological developments: reflections by Thomas Eggensperger (Berlin) on the 800th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Aquinas; an introduction by Patrice Chocholski (Marseille) to the innovative project “Theology from the Mediterranean”; analyses by Johannes Thüne (Kassel) and Lucia Werbick (Gießen) on the social ethics of Pope Francis; and a report by Fáinche Ryan (Dublin) on the post-synodal congress “The Future of Theology: Legacy and Envisioning” (Rome, 2024).
As always, the issue concludes with reviews of books of pan-European interest, offering further impulses for theological research and dialogue across Europe.
